As 5G makes rapid strides worldwide, trials and pilots of 5G Broadcast are also attracting considerable interest. They include projects to test the use of a single-frequency network (SFN) to support both networks operating in broadcasting mode: cellular networks (Low Power Low Tower or LPLT) and radio stations (High Power High Tower or HPHT).
This is an intriguing development, mainly because it opens up new possibilities for designing networks. SPINNER sees great potential in this trend and therefore joined the 5G Media Action Group (5G MAG) in mid-2021.
The 5G Media Action Group is a cross-industry organization that brings together stakeholders throughout the media sector, including content and service providers, network operators, technology solutions suppliers, equipment manufacturers, R&D organizations, regulators and policymakers. It offers all of these players a framework for collaborating on market-driven implementation of 5G solutions that meet the requirements for producing and distributing audiovisual media content and services.
SPINNER produces and services passive radio-frequency equipment for radio and mobile communications systems, and has accumulated extensive experience in both fields. Our portfolio also includes a large number of products for both, with combiners and combining systems as the core components. They can be used to merge multiple transmitted signals and broadcast them via a single antenna. Over the past few decades, SPINNER combining systems have become a staple in radio and mobile communication systems worldwide, and they can also be taken advantage of to efficiently implement 5G Broadcast.
We keep detailed information on all stations equipped with SPINNER systems; this enables us to provide optimal advice and comprehensive planning services when requested to do so when modifications are made. A recent newsletter goes into depth on how to apply the new 5G Broadcast standard to existing broadcasting towers.
Besides a sound concept for integrating 5G Broadcast, a product portfolio designed to optimally support and enable this standard is essential. Responding to the associated requirements, experience, and results, we have added solutions for 5G to our portfolio.
